What's the Holy War trophy?

Beehive Boot: the trophy for Utah's in-state series, which also includes Utah State; it hasn't been officially awarded since 2016.

How did the Holy War start?

Utah counts a 12-4 win over Brigham Young Academy on April 6, 1896, as the first meeting, but BYU's records start in 1922, so the two schools keep different series records. BYU is owned by the LDS Church and Utah is a public university, and local sports talk hosts popularized the "Holy War" name in the 1990s. The campuses are about 50 miles apart, and the game often decided the WAC and Mountain West titles until Utah left for the Pac-12 in 2011. It became a conference game again in 2024 with both schools in the Big 12. In 2006 John Beck found Jonny Harline on his knees in the end zone in the last minute for a 33-31 BYU win, which BYU fans still celebrate with "Harline's still open" shirts.
